Peter _____________________________________________________ Jeff, Dolores, On a crisp spring morning in April, 1970 - I drove the 13 miles from Pender, Nebraska to Walthill, Nebraska to assume teaching duties having just seen my new firstborn son. I remember the first time I looked at him (and felt him look at me). I remember the awesomeness of the moment, and the wonder I felt driving those miles up and down the rolling hills through the farmland of Eastern Nebraska. Was it tears, joy, awe, I felt? I knew that no matter how hard I tried, I would not be able to grasp it all. I struggled to soak in the beauty and love that this new life brought, only to find that I had limited capacity. I couldn't grasp more if I opened my eyes wider, became still and listened intently, or felt the tenderness of that little body. I knew that those moments were fleeting - time moves on, and we have work to do. I wanted each moment to last forever, but at the same time wanted him to grow up so I could see (and share in) what he would become. May you feel the peace, joy, and happiness of this new life. I pray for health, happiness, and (in a few years) a multitude of rich memories as this little life grows up. We celebrate with you.
